This exhibition presents a selection of works belonging to Juan Pablo Zabala, an art lover and collector who first became interested in the graphic arts when he was studying medicine at Zaragoza University in the 1960s.
At that time, Basque artist Remigio Mendiburu, one of the founders of the Gaur group in the 1960s, was constrained for want of any better option to sell his lithographs at ridiculously low prices through tobacco stores.
Thanks to the generosity of an aunt in the U.S. who sent him pocket money, Zabala was able to buy two of them. It was the start of a collection of contemporary art that is still growing.
His approach is simple. "Many artists work very hard but have no commercial success. If you like art, you have an obligation to help artists. They teach you things. It is important to share."
