In collaboration with the Basque Cultural Institute and the town of Saint Jean Pied de Port, Itzal aktiboa is offering its 2013 Contemporary Art Prize for the work of a young artist active in the Basque Country.

The competition is open to artists working in all mediums, providing they are less than 36 years old at the time of their application. The prize is 2,000 euros in cash. The works of five finalists will be exhibited in three locations in Saint Jean Pied de Port during the month of October 2013 and the winner will be announced during the course of the exhibition.

The rules and application procedures are available in French, Spanish and Basque on this website.  The closing date for applications is 15 July 2013.

Abel Bourgeois lives in Baigorry. He uses a pinhole camera to produce unusual views of Saint Jean Pied de Port.

Josette Dacosta has her studio in the rue de la Citadelle leading up to the 17th century military fortress that overlooks Saint Jean Pied de Port. Her paintings reflect her view of the street's unusual perspectives and the bright colours of the houses that line it on either side.
